What do we learn about the pearl's symbolism from the reactions it evokes?
We learn that the pearl symbolizes evil and greed but it mostly symbolizes hope for the distant future.
What human characteristics does the pearl bring out in these characters?
Kino: when Kino finds a pearl he becomes overwhelmed with emotion. He dreams of the future and what his son will become and what he will accomplish.
Juana: Juana is extremely thankfull to the god(s) for Kino's finding of the pearl.
Neighbors: Kino and Juana's neighbors are wondering what Kino will do with the pearl.
The Doctor: The pearl reveals greed in the doctor because he craves wealth
The Priest: The Priest is the same as the doctor he is greedy he craves wealth
The town peaple: they develop a hatred for Kino because he has something they do not.
